What is Microneedling?
When over-the-counter skin treatments aren't effective, but you don't want surgical procedures, learn more about minimally invasive skin rejuvenation treatments, such as microneedling with Skin Pen. Dr. Tracy Provenghi and her staff are more than happy to perform microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy) at our office in El Paso, TX. Microneedling uses several fine-gauge needles to effectively and safely make microinjuries in the skin. These trigger the natural production of elastin and collagen, two nutrients that enhance the overall health and appearance of your skin. Easily combined with other treatments, like serums or platelet-rich plasma (PRP), microneedling may help minimize stretch marks, scars, and pores. Schedule a consultation at SkinSational MedSpa to hear more about the benefits of microneedling and ways to customize the procedure for your skin needs and goals.

How is Microneedling Performed?
Microneedling is performed in one of our office procedure rooms in about 30 – 60 minutes with numbing cream if desired; however, patients typically report little or no discomfort. The areas of skin being treated will be cleaned before the Skin Pen handpiece evenly passes over it. After this is complete, a treatment such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) or a serum with a vitamin infusion may be applied for deeper penetration of the nutrients into the skin. A moisturizer will be massaged in along with sunscreen since the treated skin will be sensitive after the treatment.
What Should I Expect After My Microneedling Session?
After your treatment, you may develop mild redness and swelling for about one day, but this should resolve naturally. It may take around 1 – 2 months as collagen and elastin develop before you notice visible changes in the appearance and health of your treated skin. You should schedule about 4 – 6 follow-up sessions with each spaced out every 4 – 6 weeks for optimal results and lasting skin benefits.
Microneedling FAQ
How much does microneedling cost?
During your initial consultation, Dr. Provenghi will evaluate your skin and create your unique treatment plan. After this, she will go over your treatment costs and the procedure. SkinSational MedSpa frequently has specials on treatment packages, so be sure to ask about our current deals during your appointment.
What exactly is microneedling?
Collagen induction therapy or microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment to rejuvenate your skin. A natural fibrous protein, collagen helps your skin stay smooth, supple, and firm. As you get older, your natural stores of collagen are depleted, and your skin becomes thin and less elastic. Microneedling makes small wounds on your skin. These micro-injuries prompt your skin to increase collagen production and generate new skin cell growth. After a short recovery period, your skin looks healthier, firmer, and brighter.
How many treatments are recommended for optimal results?
Typically, patients need 3 – 6 microneedling treatments to get optimal results. Although, the number of treatments you need will vary based on your goals and the condition of your skin. Microneedling can be safely performed every 4 – 6 weeks. In your initial consultation, Dr. Provenghi will estimate how many treatments you will want based on your skin and goals. When your skin goals are reached, Dr. Provenghi suggests getting maintenance sessions about twice a year.
Is microneedling safe for everyone?
For the most part, microneedling is appropriate for all skin tones and types. Skin injuries created by microneedling are so minor there are usually no side effects afterward. Microneedling can be performed on most areas of skin, including the face, neck, arms, chest, and legs. Microneedling is not recommended if you have been on Accutane in the last few months, as well as if you have an active skin infection, open wound, or herpes simplex. In addition, you may not be able to get microneedling if you are pregnant, nursing, or getting radiation therapy.
